ALLIANCE,
NEBRASKA – Garden County Schools received a $1,600 Working Here Fund grant to serve local beef in its schools. The grant is provided through Farm Credit
Services of America’s (FCSAmerica) Working
Here Fund.
Grant funds will be used to process beef donated by local patrons and to
buy a freezer to store large amounts of beef. Through this program, students
will also learn more about locally raised animals and the benefits associated
with consuming food grown close to home.
“With this program, students will eat healthier meat products, grown
locally, with less process, transportation costs or chemicals for preservation,”
said Paula Sissel, Superintendent of Garden County Schools. “Local farmers and
ranchers will have the opportunity to give back to their community and benefit
from children knowing the positive impacts of their meat production.”
“We are proud
to support local organizations like Garden County Schools that are striving to
make a difference in our community,” said Melany Kizzire, vice president of
retail operations at FCSAmerica’s Alliance office.
Garden County Schools is one of 108 organizations to receive a Working Here Fund grant in the second
quarter of 2016. FCSAmerica awarded $165,855 during the latest grant cycle
ending June 30, 2016.
