The Power of Podcast!
For most of us "digital immigrants", podcast is not only a foreign word, it's a foreign concept. Think of it a little like radio broadcasting for the Internet.
A podcast is a really just a series of digital media files (either audio or video) that are released by episode and downloaded through web syndication on the Internet. The mode of delivery is what differentiates podcasting from other means of accessing media files. A list of all the audio or video files currently associated with a given podcast series is stored centrally on the distributor's server as a web feed. The listener or viewer can access different episodes from this podcast, check it for updates, and listen to or download any new files he or she wishes to hear.
To learn more about this new form of media, the University of Nebraska's Extension office is presenting a one-day workshop at The Most Unlikely Place in Lewellen, Nebraska on February 11, 2010. This workshop, Podcasting Along Nebraska Byways, will run from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM and offer participants a chance to write and produce a podcast of their own.
