The goals of the 21st CCLC grant are to: 1)
improve student learning performance; 2) improve student social and behavioral
skills; and 3) increase family and community engagement in supporting students’
education.
This grant
enables parents to know their children will be cared for in a safe and
nurturing environment before and/or after school, when they are unable to spend
this valuable time with them.
Many families rely on our
“CHAMPS-Creating Healthy and Mentally Positive Students” program if they have
to leave early for work, need additional homework support, to provide a healthy
after school snack, or as a safe environment when they are detained after
school.
The most
recent annual evaluation report revealed benefits for all students
participating in 21st CCLC programs. Student achievement improved
when students attended an after school program. State reading test scores were
higher for students who participated in these programs. Parents primarily
enrolled their children for academic support and enrichment, and reported that
these programs benefited their children.
Carrie Hoagland,
our 21st CCLC director, and her staff work diligently from 7:15 AM-6
PM (Mondays-Thursdays) and until 5 PM (Fridays) to be there for our kids and
parents. Rates are based on family income and all children are welcome! They
provide additional homework help, healthy snacks, creative, fitness, and
technology activities in a safe setting!
Community
support of this important program is another important component in enriching
the lives of our young people. Volunteers of America-Western NE, Garden County
Chamber of Commerce, Garden County Ministerial Association, TeamMates’ Mentor
Program, and the University of
NE-Extension Office all provide ongoing support to our CHAMPS’ kids in a
variety of ways. We appreciate their support in helping us enrich the lives of
our students and assist our families.
